Business Development Consultant

Our client a leading technology firm, is looking for a Business Development Consultant to increase is software and web-application sales in its key markets: Brussels, UK and Malta.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify and contact new potential customers, in order to generate new business in the field of software sales. This is done in three primary markets: (i) Brussels (EU business), (ii) United Kingdom, and (iii) Malta.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with other ICT firms which jointly with our client  may offer services to 3rd party organizations.
  • Maintain relationships with existing clients and rope in new business.
  • Close new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contract requirements with business operations.
  • Protect the company value by keeping information confidential.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Propose intelligent and innovative business solutions to our customers and prospects.
  • Prepare proposals (or responses to international tenders) and diligently follow through with customers. Proposals require Business Analysis skills so as to solve organizational information problems and requirements through analyzing requirements; designing systems and recommending system controls and protocols.
  • Maintain and update all contact information using the supplied CRM package.
  • Represent or Client at events and conferences - as a participant, or a speaker.
  • Meet sales targets.

Specific duties may include (but are not limited to) the below:

  • Generate new business opportunities for the various services and products offered by the company through direct lead-acquisition activities, company partner network and existing customers.
  • High-Level Business Analysis to understand the scope of the services required including the potential project risks and challenges which we may face both in the pre-sales stage as well as during the implementation of the project. This may include: (i) Assisting the customer to prepare a business case to obtain budget approval, (ii) Eliciting high-level functional and non-functional requirements, (ii) Translating and simplifying requirements to ensure a feasible solution can be provided, (documenting the requirements within the proposal to ensure clarity of what is considered within/outside the scope of the project.
  • Evaluate potential software solutions, including off-the-shelf and open source components, and the system architecture to ensure that they meet business requirements of the client.
  • Coordinate with the Account Management team to plan project delivery dates and contribute to the development of a project Gantt chart.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with key accounts
  • Convassing new business opportunities by liaising with clients as well as following up.
  • Coordinate with the production tea to estimate project effort and plan the commercial proposal accordingly.
  • Preparediligent and analytical sales reports.
  • Managing internal company processes to ensure the expectations set with the client are achieved.


  • A Bachelors (preferably Masters) degree in ICT.
  • 4+ years of proven experience in software sales (not hardware products), reaching a minimum target of €200,000 in sales turnover annually.
  • Experience in Business Analysis. Specifically:
    (a) Experience working with and interviewing customers and stakeholders to surface detailed requirements information,
    (b) Excellent listening skills to understand and interpret customer and stakeholder responses, and
    (c) Strong facilitation skills to lead requirements and user story sessions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks at a time.
  • Experience in the use and sale of key CMS software technologies such as WordPress or Umbraco.
  • Understanding of web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Ability to complete detailed commercial proposals including a technical write up of the proposed solution.
  • A current Maltese driver’s license.
  • One signed, positive reference from a previous employer.
