Why Malta? :: Smart City

A major catalyst for ICT job creation in Malta is the development of SmartCity Malta; the first overseas’ expansion of the successful Dubai SmartCity concept.  Coming in at $300m, SmartCity Malta is the largest ICT investment project on the Islands to date.  The capacity of the planned project is some 7,600 jobs within the SmartCity ICT and media park.  But the socio-economic impact of SmartCity as forecast by KPMG is for some 10,500 jobs to be created by 2018 as a result of the project, and predominantly in ICT. 

SmartCity is estimated to create around 4 per cent growth in the Maltese job market and have a direct impact on local GDP of around Lm218 million.  Malta’s Ministry for Investment, Industry and Information Technology has called SmartCity Malta a project that meets the aspirations of Malta to be the region's ICT Centre of Excellence.  The Island state is set to become a satellite for ICT excellence within the wider Euro-Med region.  It will certainly bring to Malta a global client base.
