Why Malta? :: ICT in Malta

The ICT sector is buoyant and set to stay so. Statistics from Malta Enterprise, the governmental body promoting inward direct investment to the islands, show that ICT and related services businesses will claim the lion’s share of job creation over the three years to 2009.

The Maltese Government is committed to making Malta a top strategic ICT player in Europe, and its drive to do so is proving successful.  At the end of March 2007, the World Economic Forum (WEF) ranked the Maltese Government as the second most successful administration in the world in promoting the use of information and communications technologies.  The European Commission ranked Malta second in its latest assessment of the sophistication of eGovernment Services and similarly the Economist Intelligence Unit placed Malta as 24th on its most recent eReadiness Index.  Malta's size works in its favour by making it easier for government to implement the required policies and strategies within a short timeframe.

The outlook is for a rise in demand for ICT staff which is likely to outstrip the locally-trained supply.  Already, many employers are seeking ICT skills from beyond Malta’s shores.
