Junior Network Architect, IP Core Networks

Our client a large telecoms company in Malta is looking to hire Junior Network Architect, IP Core Networks.

Job Purpose:

Under the guidance of the direct supervisor to build and operating the company's Core IP Networks, as well as assist the team of Enterprise Customer Network Specialists in building and supporting the company's Corporate Customers' networks.

 

The employee will work on projects related to all the Company's IP network services, including:

  • the International IP Internet Exchange for Maltese ISPs;
  • the local IP Internet Exchange for all Maltese ISPs;
  • the IP network services provided to DataCenter customers;
  • the IP network services provided to business customers;
  • the IP-access bandwidth-accounting infrastructure used for the retail Company customers;
  • the ATM and Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure used to backhaul IP services such as but not limited to ADSL, WiMAX, GPON and fiber ethernet services required to provide business connectivity services.

Responsibilities:

  • To design, build, operate, manage and maintain the company's Core IP Routing and Switching Networks, as well as operate and maintain the related Network Management Systems; 
  • To ensure the appropriate forecasting, dimensioning and sizing of the various Network elements so as to meet the demand for Service Provisioning as well as maintain the required Service Levels; 
  • To implement appropriate operational procedures in accordance with international norms and standards in order to ensure that system downtime is minimised and a high-level quality of service guaranteed; 
  • To proactively seek ways how the Core IP Networks can be leveraged and developed with a view to introducing new revenue generating products and services; 
  • To continuously seek to increase the Core IP Networks operational efficiency and to introduce appropriate mechanisms to control costs; 
  • To assist the Enterprise Customer Network Specialists to design, build, operate, manage and maintain, as required, the customers' networks; 
  • To design and maintain the IP network nodes that act as a gateway between end users and other networks such as the Internet or private networks;
  •  To provide 3rd level support for technical problem resolution; 
  • To monitor system performance and implement performance tuning for networking and systems nodes; 
  • To document network problems and resolution for future reference; 
  • To oversee installed software and network security; 
  • Be on-call to provide support for the Core IP Networks on a 24x7 basis;

  Skills & Experience: 

  • Must hold a first degree in Engineering with a focus on Telecommunications
  • At least 3 years experience in an IT operational environment, running IT/Telecommunication services on a 24x7 basis
  • Must be proficient in IP networking technologies, or demonstrate equivalent proficiency
  • Must be able to work under own initiative but requires direct supervision for the implementation of major core implementations
  • Must be a team player who listens to others and accepts input from team members
  • Should have working experience on IP and Internet related technologies, such as
  • o IP security
  • o ISP aggregation
  • o ISP services such as email, dns, web services, databases
  • o Systems: Windows, Cisco Systems, UNIX, Linux, Solaris
  • o Networking: Switches, Routers, Servers, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, HSRP, ATM, PPP, MPLS, Metro Ethernet Networks
  • o Scripting: Shell, Perl, PHP
  • Should have project management skills
  • Should have strong analytical abilities and professional office experience needed
